Alex Bregman is recovering from an illness that has kept him out of workouts the past few days, but Astros manager Dusty Baker said the infielder will likely be in the lineup Tuesday when they return from their off-day.

Bregman is 2-for-4 with a home run in the two spring training games in which he's played.

Baker said Bregman probably could have played Sunday, but they wanted to give him enough time to get to 100 percent.

“With an off-day so early in the spring, it only takes a couple of days to lose the progress that you made this early in the year,” Baker told reporters.

Tuesday is the Astros' first opportunity to get a preview of their opening day lineup, with Justin Verlander set to take the mound.

Verlander had been scheduled to make his spring training debut last Thursday, but was scratched with groin tightness. He instead threw a simulated game.
