HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Yordan Alvarez will make his Major League debut when the Astros take on the Baltimore Orioles Sunday at Minute Maid Park after the team called him up from AAA Round Rock.

Alvarez, 21, is the Astros third rated prospect according to MLB.com. In 56 games with Round Rock this season he is batting .343 with 23 home runs and 71 RBI. He will be the Astros designated hitter Sunday and bat fifth.

The Cuban-born Alvarez was acquired in a trade by the Astros for Josh Fields on August 1, 2016.

In order to make room for Alvarez on the 25-man roster, the Astros optioned pitcher Reymin Guduan to Round Rock, and transferred Lance McCullers Jr. to the 60-day IL to create an opening on the 40-man roster.
