Chris Paul: "I Never Asked For A Trade"

Chris Paul says he's "happy" about remaining with the Rockets

June 23, 2019 - 7:53 pm

Rockets guard Chris Paul spoke publicly for the first time since his postgame press conference following his team's game six loss to the Golden State Warriors and shot down rumors of his unhappiness with the team.

“I’ll be in Houston (next season),” Paul told the Houston Chronicle. “I’m happy about that. I’m very happy about that. I’m good.”

Two weeks after the Rockets season ended in disappointing fashion, the Athletic reported that Paul and James Harden had a "verbal back-and-forth" in the locker room after the game, and last week, Yahoo! reported the relationship between the two was "unsalvagable" and that Paul demanded a trade.

"I never asked for a trade," Paul told the Chronicle. I never demanded a trade."

Paul said on Instagram the trade demand was "news to me", and Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was quick to deny the story to ESPN and the Chronicle.

The Rockets guard just completed the first year of a four-year, $160 million contract.
