In earning his ninth win of the season, Cole allowed just three hits, the first was a Shohei Ohtani double away from the shift in the first inning. He retired 14 of the final 15 he faced and threw 110 pitches, 70 for strikes, inclduing a 101 MPH fastball that struck out Jarrett Parker on his last pitch of the night.

Cole was matched zero-for-zero by Angels starter Andrew Heaney until the fourth when Josh Reddick's two-out, RBI single broke the tie. Alex Bregman increased the lead in the fifth when he scored George Springer with an RBI double that hit off the leftfield wall, just over the glove of a leaping Parker. Heaney dropped to 1-3 on the season, allowing just those two runs over five innings. He was replaced by Trevor Cahill who served up Yuli Gurriel's 10th home run of the season on his second pitch, and then Yordan Alvarez came through in the seventh with a two-out RBI of his own when he doubled off the rightfield wall, plating Bregman.

Ryan Pressly took over on the mound for Cole in the eighth and worked out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth by getting Ohtani to pop out and Kole Calhoun to strikeout. Collin McHugh recorded the game's final three outs as the Astros improved to 55-35 on the season.

Alvarez, Bregman, and Tyler White had two hits for the Astros, while Gurriel's homer is his eighth over his last ten games.

David Fletcher had two hit for the Angels, who fall to 45-45.

The Astros and Angels will play one last time before the All Star Break with Jose Urquidy starting opposite Jose Suarez.
