The Texans returned to the practice field Saturday morning following their 28-26 loss to the Packers Thursday night. Texans Head coach Bill O'Brien didn't seem too concerned with the Texans turnover issues they experienced in their first preseaosn game, fumbling twice and throwing two interceptions.

"We have so much time off where they don't play real football for so long. We don't wear pads, we're in t-shirts and shorts for most of the preseason, it's never gonna change and I understad that for the safety of the players but, with that being said, it takes a while to get back to playing real football and that was real football the other night and so things are gonna happen. Green Bay did a better job of taking care of the ball than we did and we've got to take a step in the right direction with that this week," O'Brien said.

Bill O'Brien said the focus of Saturday's practice was to clean some of the mistakes up they made Saturday night, in a early walk-through before going on to install some new things they needed to work on.

According to O'Brien, in the past, the Texans have not had very productive or efficient practice following the first game of the preseaosn, but the Texans 6th year head coach said today was a step in the right direction.

"These guys came out ready to go, they were sharp, had some energy and I thought we got a little bit better today. We had some really kind of spelled out repetitions for everybody and it was good."

Getting better has been O'Brien and the Texans motto all off-season.

While O'Brien didn't specify as to when we might see the newest Texan on the field, there is no doubt that the Texans in fact got better in the running back room with the addition of former Browns running back Duke Johnson, who was acquired by the Texans earlier this week for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2020 draft. Johnson has passed a physical and the deal was finalized Friday.

Johnson was on the field listening into huddles and watching guys getting coached up.

"Taking mental reps, good pro. A lot of people spoke very highly of him including some people here," O'Brien said. "Andre Johnson knows him from down in Miami and Lamar Miller, I had a good meeting with him yesterday. He's a good guy and we're really excited to have him on board."

Training Table

Backup QB AJ McCarron had a cast on his right hand. He injured his thumb during joint practices with the Packers. Bill O'Brien said McCarron along with Keke Coutee (ankle) would not be back anytime soon, "relative to what soon means. Tomorrow? No. A week from now? Probably not. We'll just keep playing it by ear."

WR Keke Coutee (ankle), OL Greg Mancz (ankle), RB Duke Johnson, CB Jonathan Joseph, TE Jordan Thomas, CB Xavier Crawford, CB Jermaine Kelly Jr.
