HOUSTON, TEXAS (SPORTSRADIO 610) - The Houston Astros have declined the $15 million option on 15-year veteran catcher Brian McCann, making him a free-agent.

McCann, who was key in the Astros 2017 World Series Championship run, hit .241 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs in the regular season and started 17 of the 18 playoff games in 2017.

McCann spent significant time on the disabled list in 2018 and had surgery in July to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

With McCann, the Astros have seven players from the 2018 roster who are free agents: pitchers Dallas Keuchel, Charlie Morton and Tony Sipp, Evan Gattis, Brian McCann, mid-season acquisition Martin Maldonado, and Marwin Gonzalez.

The Astros extended a qualifying off to pitcher Dallas Keuchel and Charlie Morton has hinted that he may retire.

Keuchel has until 4 p.m. CT on Nov. 12 to accept or reject the qualifying offer.

The Houston Astros also outrighted RH pitcher, Jandel Gustave, off the 40-man roster.
