HOUSTON  (SPORTSRADIO 610) - The regular season is just around the corner, but first the Houston Texans need to get past the final preseason with the Dallas Cowboys. With most of the starters sitting this game, there are a few players still trying make an impact and secure their roster spot. Will the Texans keep all three quarterbacks? How many running backs or wide receivers will make the roster? We will have to wait until Saturday at 3 pm when all team must have their rosters cut to 53.

The first play of the game started with the Cowboys trying to go deep to the right side of the field, but a pass interference call on Dee Virgin allowed the Cowboys to reach field goal range for a 57-yard field goal from Brett Maher.

Brandon Weeden and the Texans stalled on the first drive but rookie Justin Reid picked off Dallas' Cooper Rush to give the Texans great field position.

The Cowboys helped the Texans with a penalty for hitting a defenseless player and Weeden connected with rookie TE Jordan Akins for 16 yards. The completion set up a 4-yard touchdown run from Alfred Blue giving the Houston Texans a 7-3 lead.

If you take away the early penalty against Dee Virgin, the Texans' defense has dominated the Cowboys in the first quarter by only allowing 20 total yard and one-yard rushing.

Brandon Weeden exits the game 2 for 5 for 20 yards but he will return later in the game. Joe Webb took over in the second quarter with a few great plays but wasn't able to show consistency to finish each series.

The Cowboys end the first quarter with a hail mary that was picked off by Dee Virgin, who seemingly was involved in every play on defense.

The Texans started the second half with a quickened pace as they moved down the field, reaching the Cowboys' 31-yard line but turning the ball over on fourth and one.

As reported by Marc Vandermeer, with Texans All Access, Brandon Weeden and Joe Webb alternated the remainder of the game. But as the final preseason game went on, Brandon Weeden struggled to move the offense and was finally benched for Joe Webb.

With 5:11 in the fourth quarter, Joe Webb handed off to Terry Swanson who slipped through the Dallas defense for an 11-yard touchdown. Swanson ended the game as the leading rusher with 17 carries for 69 and a score.

The Houston Texans defeated the Dallas Cowboys 14-6 and ending the preseason with a 3-1 record.
