Houston (SPORTSRADIO 610) - Texans safety Kareem Jackson joined Mike Meltser, Seth Payne, and Paul Gallant this morning on Mad Radio. With Sunday's season opener against the Patriots looming, the veteran addressed the obvious.

"I could sit here and say it's not [a different game], and I'd be lying," said Jackson. "I think these guys have knocked us out of the playoffs two years that I've been here. And I've never beaten them. So you have to have something deep in you as a competitor."

The Texans haven't beaten the Patriots since 2010, when Jackson was still at Alabama. They're 1-9 all time against New England, including 3 losses in Foxboro over the last 2 years.

"There's always those teams where you've played them a few times and have never had a chance to beat them," continued the 8 year NFL veteran, now entering his 9th season. "And they've got all these accomplishments, the great quarterbacks, all these other great guys. It's almost like having a big brother and never beating them. At some point you're like 'man, enough is enough.'"

The Texans want to approach every single game the same way. But against the defending AFC Champions - a team that has won at least 12 games every year Jackson has been in the league - Jackson knows that Houston has to raise its game.

"For us as a team, every week is going to be a challenge," said the 2010 first round pick. "But for this week, playing New England, we've got to take it to another level. It can set the tone for our season. So we're definitely looking forward to the challenge. It'll be big for us to go up there and handle business the way we should."
