HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) – Nick Martin practiced for the first time on Monday after a hamstring kept him sideline for the first few weeks of training camp.

“You got to knock the rust off, but when you’re out you have to stay mental, go to meetings and keep those reps up with film.”

Martin, 26, enters his fourth season in the NFL and is coming off a season in which he played every game.  He missed the final two games in 2017 after an injury forced him to require ankle surgery, and another ankle injury forced him to lose his entire rookie season in 2016.  Despite his injury history, Martin recognizes that the football field is where he feels at home.

“The field and gridiron is my comfort zone, to be out there with the guys, work with Zach (Fulton) again, Seantrell (Henderson), Max (Scharping) and everyone is awesome.”

With Martin returning, the Texans get their starting center back on the field, and one of their offensive leaders.  Martin has drawn praise from Texans Head Coach Bill O’Brien, and thinks he’s one of the key pieces to that side of the football.

“He looked good, he’s fresh right?  Nah, he’s doing good.  It’s good to have him out there, he’s a leader.  He communicates well, it’s really important for us to have him out there.  He’s an important part of what we do offensively.”
