"I would love to if I knew it was just for a year and Cora was guaranteed to come back," Lowell said in a text to WEEI.com Saturday morning.

Lowell went on to say he knows that scenario can't be guaranteed.

The third baseman was with the Red Sox from 2006-10, meaning he was teammates with Cora in his first three seasons.

The Red Sox and Cora mutually parted ways this week following being heavily mentioned in the MLB report detailing the Astros' sign-stealing scheme in 2017. Manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were each suspended a year, and then subsequently fired.

MLB said it will issue discipline for Cora once it is finished with its investigation into the 2018 Red Sox.
