“After a thorough evaluation of our football operations, we have decided to relieve Brian Gaine of his duties as general manager. Brian is a man of high character and we appreciate his contributions to our organization. We will begin an immediate search for a new GM. In the interim, Football Operations will be led by Senior Vice President of Football Administration Chris Olsen. While the timing may be unusual, this decision was made in the best interest of our organization in our quest to build a championship team for the City of Houston.”

What does this mean for the Texans from here?

"One thing that I know as a fact, is that Cal McNair ain't playing any games," said former Houston Texans Wade Smith. "The fact that he fired a GM with 3 1/2 years left on his contract tells me that anybody can get it... Cal McNair is going to do whatever he can to bring a Super Bowl back Houston."

Where does this leave the Texans in signing Jadeveon Clowney? Does it matter what the new GM thinks about Clowney?

“No, I don’t. I don’t think it matters what he (new GM) thinks about Clowney, it matters what Bill O’Brien thinks," said SportsRadio 610 Texans insider, John McClain. "The new guy won’t make any personnel moves without Bill O’Brien’s approval.”

When asked about the firing on Twitter, Texans DE JJ Watt replied, "I just want to win, man. I don't care who, how, what, I just want to win."

So do we, JJ. So do we.
