HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- The Rockets have parted ways with associate head coach Jeff Bzdelik, accordning to multiple reports Saturday.

Bzdelik, 66, was in charge of the Rockets defense during his three seasons on Mike D'Antoni's coaching staff, and was credited for the team's improvement on that end of the floor when the team won a franchise record 65 games in 2017-18. He briefly retired before training camp in September, only to return to the team after Thanksgiving.

The Rockets improved from 18th to 7th in defensive rating during Bzdelik's first two seasons, but dropped back to 18th this season, though the team was second in 25 games after the All Star Break.

According to the Houston Chronicle, who first reported the story, Bzdelik said, "That's a really good question. I don't know the answer to it. First of all, none of us have any guarantees on tomorrow. Second, you have to ask my wife. I don't think it's that big of a deal," when asked if he planned to return to the Rockets next season.

D'Antoni has one year remaining on the contract he signed with the Rockets June 1, 2016. Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta told the Chronicle that he will return next season, but did not commit to him further.
