HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Gerald Green returned to the Rockets bench for their 118-108 win over the Philadelphia 76ers Friday night at Toyota Center, but he did so wearing street clothes and a walking boot on the left foot he fractured during a preseason game against the Toronto Raptors, but he says his rehab is going well.

"I don’t know if you can see, my legs are pretty good for somebody that lost a lot of definition, I got it back pretty quick."

Green said he waited a couple of weeks to undergo surgery on his foot for several weeks as he searched for a second opinion, and while the team said he'd miss the entire season, the Houston native is holding out hope he can return before the start of the playoffs.

"I’m not trying to speed myself up, but hopefully I’ll be ready to go by the end of this season, maybe towards playoffs. I don’t want to put myself ahead of schedule, don’t want to get anybody’s hopes up or anything like that, but that’s just something I have a personal goal for myself. If I reach it great, if I don’t it’s not the end of the world, just keep getting healthy."

Green says this is the first major injury he's suffered since 2005, but he says being off the floor now will help him in the long run.

"I already feel like I’ve gotten smarter, just watching the game, really watching it, not watching it 5-10 minutes, just like really watching the game, sitting at home watching every game, analyzing every single game, I feel like my IQ has gotten a whole lot smarter. I can’t wait to get back and really show that too."

The 33 year old says he's only allowed to walk on the treadmill at this point in his rehab. He's also allowed to take standstill shots, which he did at halftime Friday night. Green has averaged 10.2 points per game in 115 games as a Rocket.
