HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) – The Texans’ offense has been clicking the last two weeks.  31 points and 472 yards of total offense against Kansas City, which came following a 53 point, 592 yard performance against Atlanta.

One of the main points of emphasis that Texans’ head coach Bill O’Brien preaches is staying on schedule and staying ahead of the chains.

“Especially on 1st and 2nd down if you can average three or four yards per play, hopefully more than that, but if you do that then you’re in manageable 3rd downs.  In the Carolina game, we were horrible.  We were 3rd & 10 plus, I think it was 10 times in the game.  The last two weeks we’ve been in manageable 3rd downs.  That’s what we’ve got to continue to do.  If we’re not in manageable 3rd downs, we’ve got a problem,” O'Brien said.

Deshaun Watson has orchestrated the Texans’ offense to back-to-back big days, back-to-back wins and a 4-2 record through six weeks, which puts the Texans in a tie for first place in the AFC South with the Colts, who the Texans play this week.

“In the last two weeks, he’s made really good decisions relative to the run and the pass.  In our system, the play is sent in and then the quarterback makes the decision on which play to run, or what to do with the play. That’s why that quarterback is so valuable to us, and that’s why he’s such a great player, because he’s really done a good job of understanding that and taking what the defense gives him," O'Brien said.  "Trying to stay ahead of schedule, stay in 2nd & 7, 2nd & 6, it’s okay to be there, it’s not good to be in 2nd & 12, it’s not good to be in 3rd & 13 and he does a good job of that.”
