HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) - The Texans go on the road this weekend as they face Sam Darnold and the New York Jets in The Meadowlands.

Although, Darnold has had health issues in his rookie year, he has had some moments where he has been able to show exactly why he was taken 3rd overall by the Jets in the 2018 draft.

Head Coach Bill O'Brien says Darnold is talented for a young QB, “It’s really interesting when you look at all the quarterbacks in the league right now. There’s a lot of differences. Sam – I thought – in the last game against Buffalo, did an excellent job late in the game of keeping plays alive, extending plays, but also being able to stand in the pocket and deliver a go ball to (Robby) Anderson that got them down there inside the red area. He’s got a lot of confidence. He’s very well-coached, and so, he’s a very, very good young player. It’s going to be a big challenge for us,” O'Brien said Thursday.

Even though the Texans have struggled against some of the better quarterbacks in the league this season, it's hard to imagine Romeo Crennel not putting together a solid game plan to keep the rookie QB on his toes. The blueprint for stopping Darnold is similar to the one they used to slow down Baker Mayfield.

Add in the impending inclement weather this Saturday and this could be a recipe for disaster for Darnold and the Jets offense against a Texans defense that has terrorized most of their opponents this year.

"I think that he’s a good young quarterback. Has a lot of ability, can make some throws, but he can hurt you with his feet, also like the others as well. I think it’ll be interesting to see how this game goes and how he performs against us and how we perform against him. But, he does have good qualities," Crennel said of Darnold Wednesday.

The Texans will face the Jets Saturday at 3:30 PM CT.
