Texans Riding a High Into the Bye

Six wins in a row and a 1.5 game lead in the division

HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) – Times are good right now for the Texans as they enter the bye on a six-game winning streak and have a 1.5 game lead on Tennessee for the lead in the AFC South.

While there is still a lot of season to play, the Texans look like a playoff team, a far cry from the 0-3 hole the Texans dug for themselves.  The Texans are happy to be 6-3, but know there is still plenty of football left and that they have to improve in a lot of areas to be considered a power in the AFC.

“There’s a lot of things that we need to do better. I think we’ve done a great job getting back to the point we’re at now, but in order for us to be where we want to be, there are so many things that we need to do better, whether it’s running the ball, the passing game being more consistent from a protection, from a route standpoint, the running game being more consistent. I think on defense, eliminating X-plays,” Texans head coach Bill O’Brien said.  “Denver had a couple of plays over 25 yards in the game, things like that, continuing to play well on special teams is going to be big. So, I think there are a lot of areas for us to improve.  We’ve done a great job of coming back from where we were, but we’ve got a long way to go.”

The Texans aren’t worried about the class they’re in, or what the perception is about their team, but it’s fun to compare what the Texans have to prove in order to be considered in the company of New England, Pittsburgh, Kansas City and maybe even the LA Chargers.

For now, the Texans are enjoying the bye and won’t look past their next game, on the road against the Redskins.  At some point though, perhaps in the playoffs, the Texans will have their chance to test where they stand.
