Texans Stay At The Greenbrier Comes To A Close

First Preseason Game Thursday

August 07, 2018 - 12:53 pm

HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) – The final practice at The Greenbrier is complete for the Texans.

Here are the takeaways of the last session in West Virginia.

-Bill O’Brien said that he’s unsure if Deshaun Watson will play Thursday versus Kansas City.  The coaches will meet Tuesday afternoon to determine whether or not he will.  When pressed on if it was more likely or more unlikely Watson would play, O’Brien said more likely.  Watson said he trusts the decision of the staff, and is fine either way.

-The Texans have a team option with The Greenbrier for next season.  While O’Brien was very complimentary of The Greenbrier, he said that the option is an organizational decision and something the organization will decide later.

-Whitney Mercilus was held out of practice again on Tuesday.  O’Brien when asked if he was dealing with an injury said that the team won’t have an injury report until before the regular season opener against New England, and that Mercilus would be back eventually.  In summary, it sounds like Mercilus is dealing with a minor injury.

-The Texans coaching staff will spend most of Tuesday afternoon, and leading up to Thursday’s preseason opener against Kansas City, determining the reps for each position and who will get on the field.

-O’Brien was asked his daily Jadeveon Clowney update.  O’Brien answered about how you would expect, that he looks good and is getting closer and closer.

The Texans will travel to Kansas City tomorrow and open up the 2018 preseason on the road against Kansas City on Thursday.
