HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) – UH basketball has a new home and a team on the brink of the top 25.

The Fertitta Center opened Saturday in front of a jam packed, sold out crowd and the Cougars beat Oregon, the then No. 18 team in the nation, 65-61.  The new college basketball polls came out on Monday, and the Cougars are receiving votes in both the Coaches poll and the AP Top 25.  UH has the 26th most points in the Coaches poll, and the 33rd most points in the AP poll.

Armoni Brooks scored a team high 22 points, and was announced the American Conference Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in a pair of Houston wins last week.

Kelvin Sampson has led his team to a 6-0 record, which is the first time UH has started the season with six straight wins since the 1997-98 season.

Houston welcomes Lamar to the Fertitta Center on Tuesday night as the Cougars look to move to 7-0 before a weekend date in Stillwater, Okla. on Satruday.
