Verlander, Cole, Altuve, Springer, Bregman Named 2018 All-Stars

Five Astros were named to the American League All-Star team and Jose Altuve had the most votes.

Houston (SPORTSRADIO 610) - Five Astros were named to the 2018 American League All-Star roster that will be managed by Houston's A.J. Hinch. Outfielder George Springer, second baseman Jose Altuve, third baseman Alex Bregman, and pitchers Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander were all voted in. Jose Altuve was the top overall vote getter in all of baseball with over 4.84 million votes which is an Astros franchise player first.

It is the third time in franchise history that five or more Astros have been voted to an All-Star team in the same year. It is Jose Altuve's sixth All-Star Game selection which is second most in club history, just one game ahead of Lance Berkman and one behind Craig Biggio. Altuve is the lone starter of all the Astros All-Star selections this season.

Alex Bregman is an All-Star for the first time in his career. He has an on-base plus slugging percentage of .903 and slugging percentage of .519 which lead the team. George Springer and Gerrit Cole are All-Stars for the second times in their careers.

Justin Verlander got his seventh career All-Star selection. He will not pitch in the game however due to his scheduled start on July 14th right before the All-Star break. Trevor Bauer will replace him on the American League roster.
