HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) –Deshaun Watson’s Texans got the best of Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs in the first meeting between the two star quarterbacks of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Some have called the Watson – Mahomes rivalry the next Brady – Manning rivalry as Watson and Mahomes are forecasted to be top tier quarterbacks for the foreseeable future.  While the Brady – Manning label may be a lofty one, Watson – Mahomes should be a fun, friendly rivalry to watch in the coming years.

“Patrick (Mahomes) and I have supported each other since college. When I was getting all the hype, he was always making sure I was staying healthy, encouraging me and congratulating me, and I’m doing the same thing with him.  It’s always going to be love.  There’s not any beef or anything.  We just want to win, play football, have fun and be the leaders of our organizations,” Watson said following Sunday's win over Mahomes.

Watson won round one of the rivalry as the Texans topped the Chiefs, 31-24.  The numbers between the quarterbacks were similar.  Watson finished 30 of 42 for 280 yards, a touchdown and an interception, while rushing for 42 yards and another touchdown on 10 carries.

Mahomes finished 19 of 25 for 273 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
