Yuli Gurriel named the American League Player of the Week

The first-career American League Player of the Week award for Gurriel

Houston, TX (SPORTSRADIO 610) - Major League Baseball has named Yuli Gurriel the American League Player of the Week for the week of September 16-23. 

This the first-career American League Player of the Week for Gurriel.

The honor comes from Gurriel hitting .433 with three doubles, three homeruns, and 10 RBIs in seven games. 

Born in Cuba, Gurriel hit his 80th career double in his 300th game and set the record for the most doubles by a Cuban-born player within his first 300th game in Major League History.

Gurriel joins Astros teammates Justin Verlander, Alex Bregman, and Even Gattis to win the American League Player of the Week this season.

The Astros wrap up the regular season with two away series with the Blue Jays and Orioles, with the last game against the Orioles on Sunday, September 30, 2018.
